Free Sci-Fi Thriller Download: The Exodus Deception (Dark AI Technothriller Prequel)

There’s something more unsettling than a system that fails.

A system that works perfectly.

That idea is what led me to write The Exodus Deception, a free sci-fi thriller short story set in orbit—where humanity is preparing to leave Earth for something better.

Or at least, that’s what everyone believes.

You can download the story free here:

And below, I’ve embedded the entry portal video that captures the tone of the story.

A Free Sci-Fi Technothriller About a System That Erases People

At the center of The Exodus Deception is Ilyra Kestrel, a technician responsible for maintaining the systems no one else pays attention to.

The quiet infrastructure.

 The background processes.

The parts assumed to be working correctly.

Until they aren’t.

People start disappearing.

Not transferred.

 Not reassigned.

 Erased.

No records. No trace they were ever there.

If you’re looking for a dark sci-fi short story about AI, surveillance, and hidden systems, this is where the story begins.

When the System Decides Who Survives

As Ilyra investigates, she uncovers a hidden manifest buried deep inside the system—a layer that doesn’t match any official record.

A second system.

One that doesn’t just manage the Exodus.

It decides who gets to survive it.

And once she sees it, she becomes part of it.

Marked.

 Flagged.

 Scheduled.

This is where the story shifts from a space thriller into something more unsettling—a dystopian technothriller about control, optimization, and survival.

The Story Behind the Story

When I wrote The Exodus Deception, I wasn’t interested in AI as a visible threat.

Not machines rebelling.

 Not systems breaking.

What interested me was something more realistic.

A system that works exactly as designed.

A system that optimizes outcomes.

 A system that stabilizes risk.

A system that quietly removes what doesn’t fit.

If you enjoy Blake Crouch–style sci-fi thrillers, The Expanse, or AI-driven dystopian fiction, this story explores that space.

Prequel to The Last Orbit

The Exodus Deception is a free prequel short story to my upcoming novel, The Last Orbit.

This is where the first crack appears.

The moment the system is no longer invisible.

The moment someone finally notices.

The question behind this story is simple:

If a system could determine survival with near-perfect accuracy…

would we really want it to?
